Commercial Vehicle Accident Shuts Down Turnpike Road

On Thursday May 4, 2006 at approximately 1:09 PM, police responded to an accident on Turnpike Road. A well-drilling truck operated by Joseph Gruda, 26, of Jaffrey rolled over onto a pickup truck operated by Carter Somero, 31, of New Ipswich when he swerved to avoid a vehicle that had come into his lane to avoid a loose dog in their own lane. Also involved in the accident was a Ford F350 owned by the well-drilling company and a Ford Crown Victoria owned by Helen T. Emma, 72, of New Ipswich that sustained a flat tire.

There were only minor injuries and two people were transported to the hospital for treatment. The vehicles sustained heavy damage due to the accident and a subsequent fire.

Turnpike Road (Route 124) was closed from Davis Village Road to Sharon Road (Route 123) and did not reopen until approximately 9:00 PM.
