If someone has issued a bad check to you and has not paid for it, you should:

  • Download the form letter, print it and fill out the required information.
  • Send it to the person certified mail, return receipt (ensure that you keep a copy of the letter).
  • They must be given 14 days from the date you sent the letter before you can take any further action.

    If they have not contacted you by the fourteenth day to arrange payment, you should:
  • Make copies of the letter you sent, the certified mail return receipt and the bad check.
  • Either call 878-2771 or stop by the Police Station to report the matter.
  • Turn over the copies of all relevant documents to the Police.
  • The Police will then request bank records and conduct an investigation before they can issue a warrant for the person's arrest.

  • **We cannot prosecute Third Party checks or for checks drawn on out of state banks.
