W. Garrett Chamberlain
Chief of Police

Employment: Chief Chamberlain joined the New Ipswich Police Department in November of 2002. Prior to that, he worked as a Patrol Sergeant for the Marlborough Police Department. Chief Chamberlain has worked in law enforcement since 1993, and in that time he has also worked for the Swanzey, Troy and Gilsum Police Departments. Since joining NIPD, he has implemented numerous changes that have allowed the Department to operate more efficiently, effectively and professionally. Due to a generous donation from an anonymous citizen, the Department was able to purchase three new desktop computers and one new laptop for the Department, which allows the officers to spend more time on patrol and less time bogged down with paperwork in the station. Chief Chamberlain has an open door policy and makes himself available to any citizen whenever possible.  

 

Training / Education: Chief Chamberlain has attended numerous training courses during his career: Part and Full-Time certified through NH Police Standards and Training Council, Police Lockup Liability, Intoxilyzer 5000 Operator, Governor's Domestic Violence course, NH Police Standards and Training Domestic Violence course, CRIS Records Software, High Risk Incident Management, Patrol Rifle Instructor, Shotgun Instructor, School Emergency Planning, Police Prosecutor, First Aid, CPR and defibrillator certified, Gaze Nystagmus / DWI, Rescue from Heights, First Line Supervision, Background Investigation, Smith and Wesson Armorer, Crime Scene Investigation, Narcotics Crime Scene Investigation, Doppler Traffic Radar Operator, Terrorist Incident Command School, Polaroid Domestic Evidence Collection, ASP Tactical Baton Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Identi-Kit Composite Software Operator, Smith and Wesson Officer Survival, NH Police Standards and Training Motor Vehicle and Criminal Codes, and Less Lethal Shotgun. Chief Chamberlain earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from the New Hampshire Technical Institute.
