03/17/02 to 03/23/02-
Sunday 03/17/02-
0020: Arrest: Police arrested Robert Straitiff, 20,
of New Ipswich for DWI. He was also cited for driving
70 mph in a 40 mph zone.
0310: Citizen Assist: Police observed two juveniles
walking down Turnpike Road. The boys were escorted
home, due to the fact that they were both younger than
14 years old.
1049: Civil Standby: Police stood by at a residence
on Turnpike Road while a former tenant removed the rest
of his belongings.
1400: Disorderly Conduct: Police received a report
that a man had been looking at a truck for sale on Wheeler
Road when the owner of the property allegedly threw rocks
at him. The complainant did not want to press any charges.
1606: OHRV Complaint: Police responded to Appleton
Road for a report of OHRVs driving recklessly.
1705: Suspicious Circumstances: Police received a report
that more needles had been found on Turnpike Road. The
needles were disposed of properly.
1824: MV Accident: Richard Hewitt, 74, of New Ipswich
reported thathe had struck a deer on Turnpike Road near
Tenney Road. The animal was killed instantly.
Monday 03/18/02-
1608: MV Off the Road: Police responded to a motor vehicle
in a culvert near 275 Turnpike Road. The driver was not injured
and the vehicle was undamaged.
1610: MV Off the Road: Police responded to a motor vehicle
in a culvert near 248 Turnpike Road. The driver was not injured
and the vehicle was undamaged.
1623: 911 Hang Up: Police responded to Mascenic High
School for a 911 hang up. No one at the school was aware of
any problems and the police cleared the scene without incident.
1700: MV Off the Road: Police responded to a motor vehicle
in a culvert near Windblown on Turnpike Road. The driver was
not injured and the vehicle was undamaged.
1714: Suspicious Person: Police received a report that there
was a man in the parking lot at the New Ipswich Market with a
knife on his lap and blood on his hands. Police responded and
determined that the man had cut himself accidentally and
was not seriously injured.
Tuesday 03/19/02-
0949: Ambulance Assist: Police assisted SVAS with a call
at a residence on Ashburnham Road.
1134: Trespassing: A resident of Kenney Road reported
that dogs belonging to coyote hunters have been on her property
and she does not want them there. The owner of the dogs was
contacted and he agreed to run them further from the houses
in the area.
Wednesday 3/20/02-
1335: JV Complaint: Mascenic High School reported having
trouble with one of their students. Police are working with the
school to resolve the incident.
1410: MV Off the Road: Police received reports of several
vehicles off the road near Windblon Ski Area due to weather
conditions. The vehicles were gone on arrival.
1535: OHRV Complaint: A resident of Hollyview Drive
reported that snowmobiles were driving recklessly on the road.
The snowmobiles were gone on arrival.
1903: Low Wires: A resident of Old Wilton Road reported
that there was a wire hanging down over the road. The wire
was removed.
1905: OHRV Complaint: Police investigated a report of a
snowmobile driving recklessly down Main Street.
1915: OHRV Complaint: Police investigated a report of
an OHRV driving on Temple Road.
Thursday 3/21/02-
1050: Suspicious Person: Police investigated a report of
a suspicious person on Turnpike Road. The incident occurred
the day before and the complainiant was unable to provide
enough details to identify the man, She was informed that she
should call the police immediately if she saw him again.
1240: Check the Welfare: A resident of Wilder Brook Estates
reported that he was concerned about his neighbor, who he had
not seen in several days. Police contacted the woman, who had
been sick for several days, and was grateful that someone had
checked on her.
1715: MV Accident: Police responded to a minor motor vehicle
accident at the NeWest Mall. Alma Somero, 16, of New Ipswich,
backed into a parked Dodge belonging to Raymond Holmes, 38,
of New Ipswich. There was minor damage to both vehicles.
1904: Suspicious Motor Vehicle: A resident of Old Country
Road reported that a suspicious vehicle had been parked near
her house all day. When police arrived they met with the owner,
who owas returning from hunting.
1930: Criminal Mischief: Konrad Seppala reported that he had
left his vehicle parked overnight in the lot near the center of town.
When he returned the next day, he observed that all of the car's
windows had been broken and a portable CD player and approx-
imately 40 CDs had been taken.
2205: Arcing Wires: Police received a report that there were
wires arcing on Ashby Road. They checked the area with the
assistance of the Fire Department with negative results.
2234: Ambulance Assist: Police assisted SVAS with a call at a
residence on Ashby Road.
2313: Mutual Aid: Police assisted the Greenville and Mason
Police with the arrest of a violent subject in Greenville.
Friday 3/22/02-
0431: MV Accident: Police assisted the State Police with a
single car accident on Turnpike Road.
1650: Residential Alarm: Police responded to a residential
alarm on Cedar Ridge. The area was secure and the police
cleared the scene.
1852: 911 Hang Up Police responded to a residence on Walsh
Road for a 911 hang up call. The resident stated that it was
accidental and everything was fine.
1953: OHRV Complaint: A resident of Ken Street reported that
he is having trouble with snowmobiles trespassing on his
property. He advised the police that he will be putting up a
fence.
Saturday 3/23/02-
0824: Police Information: Police supplied information to the
Fitchburg Police about a hit and run that had occurred in
Fitchburg on 3/20/02.
1430: Motorist Assist: A New Ipswich resident reported that
the driver of a tow truck with Massachusetts plates was
driving down Route 124 and looked as if he were falling
asleep. Police checked the welfare of the driver and
determined that there were no problems.
1534: Ambulance Assist: Police assisted SVAS with a call at
a residence on Appleton Road.
