Police Log Week Ending 06/01/2002

New Ipswich Police Department, but is not a
complete listing of all activity during the week.




05/26/02 to 06/01/02-


Sunday 05/26/02-

1142: Arrest: Police attempted to stop Justin Winegar, 16, of New Ipswich on Goen Road for driving 41 mph in a 25 mph zone. The vehicle took off and Police stopped the pursuit, due to safety concerns. The vehicle then drove out of New Hampshire and into Massachusetts. The Ashby, MA Police attempted to stop the vehicle and also broke off pursuit due to safety concerns. As the vehicle crossed back into New Ipswich it crossed the center line on an S-curve and struck the New Ipswich Police cruiser, causing significant damage to both vehicles and causing minor injury to the officer and to a juvenile passenger in the vehicle driven by Winegar. Winegar was subsequently arrested and charged with: Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disobeying an Officer, License Required, and two counts of Reckless Driving.

Monday 05/27/02-

1406: Noise Complaint: Police received a noise complaint from a Page Hill Road resident. She was informed of the town's Noise Ordinance and advised of other ways to handle the situation, as the ordinance was not in effect at the time of the call.

2025: Property Damage: Police observed that there were several broken windows at the Town Pool's pump house. The Town Office was notified of the incident.

2055: MV Stop: Police stopped Ernest Klein, 68, of Boston, MA on Turnpike Road and issued a Written Warning for Defective Equipment: Headlight.

2355: Hit and Run: Nicholas Worden of New Ipswich reported that a vehicle struck his car while it was parked at his residence on Turnpike Road and left the scene. Police later found that Tanya Castros, 45, of New Ipswich was the driver of the vehicle and will be charging her with Conduct After an Accident.


Tuesday 5/28/02-

1310: Criminal Mischief: A resident of Binney Hill Road reported that her mailbox had been destroyed some time over the weekend. She also stated that this is the fourth time her mailbox has been damaged. There are no suspects.

1448: 911 Hang Up: Police responded to Finn Hill Drive for a 911 Hang Up call. They determined that a child had been playing with the phone.

1949: Assist Fire Department: Police responded to Cedar Ridge Road to assist the Fire Department. A Chevy Monte Carlo was on fire and unattended. The vehicle was towed to Tuttle's and the incident is under investigation.

2120:Harassing Phone Calls: Police received a report that a New Ipswich resident was receiving harassing phone calls. Police are looking into the incident.


Wednesday 5/29/02-

2016: Assist Fire Department: Police assisted the Fire Department at a residence on Mountainview Drive for a carbon monoxide detector alarm. The area was cleared without incident.


Thursday 5/30/02-

1450: MV Lock Out: Police assisted a New Ipswich resident with gaining access to his vehicle, which had been locked from the inside by his dog.

1940: Shots Fired: Police responded to Tote Road for a report of shots fired. The resident stated that kids were shooting pellet guns on the property that abuts hers. She was advised that they were not in violation of any ordinances or laws.

1957: Unwanted Subject: Police responded to a New Ipswich residence and spoke to a man who stated that he did not want his daughter on the premises. A place for her to stay was found and Police cleared the scene.


Friday 05/31/02-

0903: MV Complaint: Police received a report that an elderly man was driving very slowly and erratically down Route 124. Police checked the area with negative results.

0906: JV Complaint: Police responded to Mascenic High School for a report of a juvenile in possession of drugs. The juvenile was released to a parent and a Juvenile Petition will be filed with the Court.

1049: 911 Hang Up: Police responded to Kenneybeck Court for a 911 Hang Up. It was determined that it was accidental.

1212:Found Property: Police received a report that a Mascenic High School employee had found a small plastic bag contaning a substance believed to be marijuana. Police are looking into the matter.

1800: Power Outage: Police received a report that there was no power at a residence on Temple Road. Police notified PSNH of the matter.

2345: MV Stop: Police stopped Creighton Seppala, 16, of Rindge on Route 124 and issued a Written Warning for crossing the center line due to the fact that he was adjusting his mirror.


Saturday 06/01/02-

0330: Criminal Mischief: Police responded to Route 124 near North Road and found a large quantity of tree branches that had been placed in the road.

0803: Unwanted Subject: Police responded to a residence on Turnpike Road to deal with an unwanted subject. They took Ed Chamberlain, 36, of Hancock into Protective Custody due to the fact that he was intoxicated. He was later released to a family member.

0936: Ambulance Assist: Police assisted SVAS with an ambulance call at a residence on Thayer Road.

1513: Alarm: Police responded to Mascenic High School for a burglar alarm. On arrival they found a door unlocked but there was no sign of forced entry or theft. The area was secured by a school employee and Police cleared the scene.

1554: OHRV Complaint: Police received a complaint about OHRVs operating on Appleton and Boynton Hill Roads. The area was checked with negative results.

1740: Mutual Aid: Police assisted the Mason Police with a burglar alarm in Mason.

2115: Mutual Aid: Police assisted the Greenville Police with a fight in Greenville.

2130: MV vs. Cat: Police received a report that a car struck a cat on Temple Road. The cat was injured but could not be caught by the officer. The Animal Control Officer was notified.

2219: Criminal Mischief: Police received a report that an unknown person hit several mailboxes on Mountainview Drive with their car and destroyed them.

2238: Assist Fire Department: Police assisted the New Ipswich Fire Department at a tire fire on Turnpike Road. There were no subjects in the area when Police arrived on scene.

2325: Criminal Mischief: Police responded to Route 124 near North Road to help clear several tree branches that were placed in the road.

2325: MV Complaint: Police received a report that there were cars racing on Turnpike Road. The vehicles were gone on arrival.

2332: Criminal Mischief: Police received a report that a mailbox on Goen Road had been destroyed by an unknown person. There are no suspects.

2335: Suspicious Person: Police responded to Davis Village Road to investigate a report of suspicious people. They spoke to two New Ipswich residents who stated that they were out looking for a a lost dog.

2345: Criminal Mischief: Police responded to Turnpike Road near Porter Hill Road and removed several orange barrels that had been placed in the road.

2250: MV Stop: Police stopped Nathan Rautiola, 17, of New Ipswich on Timbertop Road and issued a Written Warning for Defective Equipment: Tail Light.
